LaundryCard Redesigns X-Changer Kiosk to Let Laundromat Customers Use Cash and Credit

WEST CHESTER, Pa., 20 February 2007 – MEI announces that Card Concepts, Inc., has redesigned its X-Changer LaundryCard kiosks with an MEI CashFlow combo acceptor to provide its customers payment flexibility. X-Changer kiosks have already been installed in more than 230 locations throughout the United States.

Laundromat customers can use cash, credit or debit cards to purchase prepaid, rechargeable debit cards. The cards activate the laundry machines, eliminating the hassle of searching for, and carrying, coins. In order to recharge a prepaid account balance, customers go to their Laundromat’s X-Changer kiosk; follow simple, multilingual directions on the touch-screen; and insert the appropriate amount of currency. The kiosk system maintains customers’ card balance and allows them to revalue their card as needed.

X-Changer LaundryCard kiosks provide increased security benefits for retailers. The centrally located high-security kiosk functions like a safe, housing all of the Laundromat’s cash, which deters theft. In addition, Laundromat owners reduce time and overhead by collecting cash at one location, instead of from every individual machine. The X-Changer system also deters employee theft – its built-in revenue reporting system lets Laundromat owners keep tabs on how much cash is in the kiosk at any given time and how much is removed.

Besides increased security, Laundromat owners can gain a competitive advantage by using the X-Changer system. Like the loyalty cards used in grocery stores, customers can easily be tracked to build loyalty programs and launch marketing initiatives such as direct-mail marketing and cash-back programs.

Card Concepts designed its X-Changer kiosk to solely accept cash because the company determined that cash is used almost exclusively by laundry service consumers. Because X-Changer kiosks only accept paper currency, the functionality and reliability of the bill acceptor is absolutely critical. “We have always preferred to work with MEI’s bill acceptors,” said Steve Marcionetti, project manager for Card Concepts. “MEI constantly adapts their designs to meet the needs of their customers. Plus, you rarely hear of MEI bill acceptors jamming, accepting false currency or defrauding customers. We are very pleased with our bill acceptors’ performance.”

Marcionetti continued, “Because of the nature of the Laundromat business, our customers have worked with different bill and coin acceptors for years. They’re always pleased to hear that our products use MEI’s technology, which is associated with high reliability. We only use the best components in our kiosks, and that’s why we chose MEI’s bill acceptors. It definitely helps the sale of our product to retailers.”
